Job Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for the overall management of patient programming, admissions, insurance/case management reviews, program segmentation and development, supervision/in-service/orientation of the staff. Responsibilities:

• Manages the day-to-day operations of the inpatient and crisis psychiatric units.
• Responsible for the financial oversight (time, materials, etc.) and cost containment of the units.
• Provides administrative and clinical supervision of nursing staff and psychiatric technicians.
• Performs staff evaluations from probationary period to annual appraisals.
• Conducts chart reviews to validate compliance with clinical policies and ensure documentation is compliant with plan of care, medication reconciliation and the discharge process.
• Responsible for staffing and scheduling of permanent and supplemental nursing staff and ensures that assignments of the staff reflect their appropriate utilization, compliance with staffing guidelines and Joint Commission standards.
• Review patients’ assignments on a continual basis and adjust assignments to facilitate appropriate delivery of care.
• Consults with other department directors and administration to ensure coordinated and efficient operations of services.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of an infection control program to include the surveillance, prevention, and control of infection to reduce the risks of acquiring and transmitting infection among patients and employees.
• Directs units according to established policies, standards of care, standards of practice, and is responsible for ensuring that nursing practice and operations are compliant with regulatory requirements, laws and standards, Joint Commission, and the Department of Health.
• Responsible for ensuring an environment that is conducive to the recruitment and retention of highly competent nursing staff with diverse backgrounds.
• Ensures appropriate orientation, education and continuing professional development of nursing personnel.
• Annually set goals for the department and review every six months for compliance.
• Annually review and maintain updated job descriptions, performance evaluations, orientation checklists and competencies.
• Annually review safety policies for the department to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital practices.
• Annually review the number of injuries, types and cost for your department as well as provide effective corrective action which results in reduction in accidents.
• Report all accidents immediately and provide timely corrective action on all accidents.
• Willingly accepts other duties as assigned.

Experience:

• Three years of clinical management experience in a psychiatric unit.  

Education Requirement:

• BSN (required)
• MSN (preferred)
• Pennsylvania Registered Nurse License
• BLS
• PMHNC preferred
