General Description This position is responsible for evaluating, planning, and implementing occupational therapy services for in-patients Occupational Therapy by a physician. Care is performed according to the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, organization and department policies and procedures. This is a professional-level position operating independently, under limited supervision. Work situations are varied and require initiative, analysis, interpretation of information from a variety of sources, a service-oriented individual, and the use of discretion and good judgment in decision-making. Internal contacts are primarily with coworkers in therapy departments, nursing, and Case Managers. External contacts include patients, families, and physicians. About the PositionFacilitation of individual and group therapy sessions and assessments that are relevant to the Inpatient Programming. Expectations are that assessments and EMR notes be done in a timely manner. The Occupational Therapist is involved in the planning and implementing of activities and therapeutic sessions for all interested patients. Group and individual sessions can be conducted on the adult psychiatric units or in the Rec Room. The psychotherapist performs interventions that meet the need of the client and group.Position Functions and Responsibilities- Performs patient assessments upon receipt of medical provider's order to include selection and administration of appropriate occupational therapy tools and materials- Develops treatment plans to include appropriate treatment in function, activities of daily living, sensory motor, cognitive perceptual, pre-vocational, patient, and care giver education, recreational and/or social activities designed to help patients and family functioning in their daily lives- Teaches patients, family members/care giver skills and techniques required to facilitate development or regaining of skills- Evaluates patient progress and updates treatment plan and short and long term goals as necessary- Designs, constructs, and/or makes recommendation of special equipment for patient's environment- Provides a variety of appropriate treatment modalities to patients within their scope of licensure and the standards of practice of AOTA- Confers with physicians, health care professionals, and other private and public care providers to obtain information to promote appropriate treatment and integration of occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of health care- Uses time and resources efficiently to promote cost effective care- Participates in quality improvement, continuing education activities, and contributes to the growth of the department- Maintains professional credentials and keeps abreast of current issues and treatments in occupational therapy- Oversees students from occupational therapy programs- Conducts inservice programs or participates in inservices from medical, nursing, or other health care professionals as assigned- Completes required documentation in an accurate and timely manner following departmental policies and procedures- Performs duties within established productivity standards- Manages schedules in the best interest of the patient- Adheres to Navos Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards. Maintains reliable attendance- Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration and kindness), continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of and understanding of age-related care needs for adult and geriatric patients and/or families- Knowledge of current trends and developments in Occupational Therapy- Knowledge of the principles of information management in order to effectively analyze and make decisions- Knowledge of adult acute and long term patient care as it relates to occupational therapy- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, human development, kinesiology, neuro-anatomy, neuro-psychology, general medicine and surgery, sensory motor and sensory integration, neuro-developmental therapy and psycho-social development- Knowledge of and skill in administration of standardized occupational therapy evaluations- Skill in evaluation of patient status, and developing and implementing therapy program- Skill in age-related patient assessments and creation of plan of care appropriate to the age and development level of the patient- Knowledge of principles and techniques of group and individual therapy, and experience in facilitating groups. Understanding of principles and methods of intervention. - Knowledge of professional standards and skill in working in behavioral health environment- Skill in good interpersonal, oral and written communication- Skill in writing accurate, precise medical record notes- Ability to work efficiently under pressure- Ability to work independently and take initiative- Ability to deal effectively with constant change- Ability to set priorities and use good judgmentEducation & Experience
Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Washington
