GENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Program Manager, Corporate Health, is responsible for the overall management and flow of patients seen for occupational health, infection control, and workplace hazards. Is responsible for performing diversified nursing duties relating to the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the critical exposure program with emphasis on educating employees and reducing critical exposures. Ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients in the following age categories: All ages; Neonate; Infancy; Toddler; Preschool; School age; Adolescent; Adult; Geriatric.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides supervision to medical assistants and secretaries in clinical area to ensure optimum flow and maintenance of all employee health systems. Is responsible for the generation of all reports in an accurate and timely manner. Demonstrates an awareness of the importance of maintaining positive customer relations with all Hospital departments and Hospital employees. Works collaboratively with EAP and Infection Control Practitioners.
2. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the specialty of employee health/occupational health nursing and the scope of the practice. Performs pre-employment health screenings and nursing assessments according to Department protocols. Interprets and evaluates historical data, laboratory reports, and screening tests accurately to determine current health status, vaccine needs, and freedom from communicable diseases. Maintains current knowledge of Workerâ��s Compensation to aid in case management. Is responsible for tracking and recordkeeping system for case management in conjunction with the Program Manager, Corporate Health. Provides medical treatment under the direction of the Employee Health Physician and maintains surveillance for employees exposed to a communicable disease.
3. Under the direction of the Program Manager, Corporate Health, and Employee Health Physician, performs diversified duties relating to critical exposures. Reviews all employee critical exposures and investigates sources for risk factors, interviews employees, and provides counseling for life threatening infections. Performs surveillance for Hepatitis B, C, and HIV. Follows up with employees for serial testing. Educates new employees on critical exposure principles, practices, and protocols.
4. Triages all injuries and handles all communication with employees, supervisors, and Human Resources regarding new work-related injuries. Triages all calls relating to non-work-related injuries to determine appropriate follow up. Communicates with each employee, supervisor, and Human Resources regarding return to work status and follows up after each visit to Corporate Health or treating physician.
5. Serves as an educational and consultative resource for employees regarding employee health/occupational health issues. Is able to do on-site visits to departments as needed to promote healthy and safe work practices.
OTHER JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: 1. Registered Nurse licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 2. Two to three years of occupational/employee health nursing experience. 3. Excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills. 4. Ability to work independently within the broad scope of department policies and procedures. 5. BLS Certification required from the American Heart Association
